Sri Lanka Talks scheduled for 22- 23 February, in Geneva

Colombo, 07 February, (Asiantribune.com): At last Norway has managed to fix the dates for the talks, between both the protagonists of the conflict - Government of Sri Lanka and the Tamil rebel outfit, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. The 'Talks' is to be held in Geneva; Switzerland and is now fixed for 22 and 23 February. Switzerland will host the talks and Norway will facilitate the talks.

On Monday, Erik Solheim, the Norways Minister for International Development following his meeting in London with Anton Balasingham, LTTE’s Chief Negotiator and after consultations with the Government of Sri Lanka, fixed the dates.

This is the first time since April 2003, after a lapse of three years that the parties meet face-to-face at such a high level for talks.

The parties are expected to meet on the fourth year anniversary of the 22 February 2002 Ceasefire Agreement, to discuss about the ways and means of improving the implementation of the Agreement.
