Colombo, 25 August, (Asiantribune.com): The Tamil rebel outfit, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam has come with the plan to issue Tamil Eelam National Identity cards, to begin with to those Tamils residing in the areas controlled by them and sooner it would be extended and made compulsory for all those living in the North and East.

Initially, on the instruction of the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabakaran, already step has been undertaken to set up a Tamil Eelam Department of the Registration Persons in Vanni, to issue the National Identity Cards.

The newly formed department is entrusted with the task of issuing Tamil Eelam national Identity Cards and also registering of persons living under areas controlled by the Tamil Tigers.

According to reports, it will be compulsory for all those above the age of 16 years to be registered with the Department and obtain the National Identity Cards.
