[b]Colombo, 23 December, (Asiantribune.com): [/b]Armed Tamil Tiger rebels in a flotilla of about ten boats opened fire at two Sri Lanka navy vessels at around 7.4o a.m. on Thursday morning and abducted three sailors and injured another sailor.
"The two naval craft were on routine patrol in the area when armed Tamil Tigers, disguised as fishermen on ten LTTE boats, opened fire at those naval craft and abducted three sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy,” Sri Lanka Army said.
Abducted three Sri Lanka Navy men were (1) Petty Officer P.Paranawithana, (2) Leading Patrolman S.R. Gunapala and (3) Patrolman R.A.T. Bandara
The injured sailor Engineering Mechanic S.G.T. Sanjeewa was initially taken to Mannar hospital and then transferred to Anuradhapura General Hospital.
However, both naval craft were rescued.
This latest violation of the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) was reported to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM)
