Tamils need not pay attention to this election -- R Sampanthan tells media after the talks with Tamilselvan

Colombo, 11 November, (Asiantribune.com): "There is no need for the Tamils living in North and East to show any interest in the Presidential elections ," said R.Sampanthan, the leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) , yesterday, addressing a press conference after the TNA Members of Parliament met and discussed the LTTE response to the presidential elections with S.Paramu Tamilselvan, the Head of the political division of the LTTE at Kilinochchi. "Supporting one or the other candidate will not bring the Tamils anything worthwhile," he added.

The TNA MPs met Tamilselvam at the LTTE’s Peace Secretariat yesterday.

After the meeting Sampanthan met the media and said:

"Today ( Thursday , November 10, 2005) S.Paramu Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Division of the LTTE, met Parliament Members of the Tamil National Alliance. The meeting held today commenced at 11 a.m. and it lasted for about three hours.

"The meeting discussed the steps that should be taken by the Tamils of the North and East at the forthcoming Presidential election.

"Discussions focused mainly on how successive Sinhala leaders who came to power after independence treated the Tamils, what steps they took to solve the problems of the Tamils, how the Tamils were discriminated, how the Tamils were harassed militarily and how governments were involved in ethnic genocides.
