A Time for Politics

A Time for Politics

There is a time to fight and a time not to fight. The Tigers know this, always knew this – as can be evidenced by their periodic ceasefires. Faced with an adverse international and internal climate the LTTE did the wise thing. The almost daily attacks on the Army have stopped for now and the Tigers have gained quite a bit of political mileage by their seeming willingness of compromise in the interests of peace.

The lull will not last, and the Tiger having strengthened itself by and during its short hibernation will spring ere long. But until that time this illusion will prevail, necessitated by need and nourished by hope of the possibility of a negotiated peace with the LTTE. This illusion will be short lived but it is important to ensure that it is killed by the Tigers and not by those on the anti-Tiger side of the divide, be it the Sri Lankan state or the Karuna rebels.
