TNA MPs to meet the LTTE next week to decide whom they should back in the coming presidential election – Sampanthan, leader of TNA

Colombo, 06 November, (Asiantribune.com): Tamil National Alliance leader R. Sampanthan condemned the spree of political killings that has been going in the North and East whether they committed by the LTTE or paramilitary groups.

In an unprecedented turn of events, some twenty murders have been carried out in October alone allegedly by the LTTE, the government Spokesman told a news conference last week. While condemning it outright the government said all these are being done by the LTTE despite extending facilities to transport LTTE cadres from Killinochchi to Colombo, for urgent medical treatment. “The LTTE is acting in barbaric manner. But the Sri Lankan nation will not descend to that level. We are reciprocating in a humane manner”.

The TNA which has close links with the LTTE, insisted that the peace process need to be put back on the track soon. However he justified the LTTE’s refusal to come to the negotiating table to review the cease-fire agreement. “It is understood why the LTTE do not want to start talks just ahead of a presidential election. Moreover the government is inviting for talks while Prime Minister Mahinda Rajpakse’s party is at ‘sixes and sevens with his medley of alliances,” Sampanthan told in an interview with the “Asian Tribune. “
