A Total War - that seems to be the Tigers’ strategy. This limitless war will be unleashed not only on the Sri Lankan state but also on the Tamil people of the North and the East. This war, irrespective of its duration and outcome, would cost Sri Lanka much; the cost to the Tamil people would be immeasurably greater. For Sri Lanka the war would mean a significant exacerbation of the existing political, economic and social crises; but for the Tamil people of the North and the East the war would mean a civilisation crisis/breakdown. The Tamils have already lost far more than their Sinhala and Muslims counterparts in the previous Eelam wars. The coming war will worsen that imbalance, imposing on the Tamils a cost that would weigh them down for generations to come.
