Kathmandu, 05 November, ( Seven US Congressmen have urged US Secretary of State Condoleezze Rice to develop a "multi-pronged and multi-year strategy" to ensure Nepal's political, economic, and democratic health. They have also suggested that a package including diplomatic intervention, economic development, and restoration of civil security is required to persuade King Gyanendra to embrace democratic governance.

In a letter sent to Rice on October 28, the Congressmen have urged Rice to call a high-level intra-agency group to "discuss, develop and implement" the strategy to address the situation in Nepal.

The letter is signed by Congressmen James T. Walsh of New York, Bob Filner of California, Mark Kirk of Illinois, Barney Frank of Massachusetts, Mark Udall of Colorado, Joseph Pitts of Pennsylvania, and Chris Smith of New Jersey.
