U.S. State Department Reacts to 'Asian Tribune' Report

U.S. State Department Reacts to 'Asian Tribune' Report on its Web Site Misinterpretation of Sri Lanka Conflict

Daya Gamage – US National Correspondent for Asian Tribune

Washington, D.C. 02 March (Asiantribune.com): The United States Department of State reacting to the 'Asian Tribune' report on 24 February captioned "US State Department Web Site Misinterprets Sri Lanka Conflict" has now deleted the editorial remark that misinterpreted and distorted Sri Lanka's 'National Question' from its original text.

State Department 'Media Note' that announced "United States Welcomes Steps Toward Peace in Sri Lanka" carried an editorial remark that clearly conveyed the impression that Sri Lanka 'conflict' started in the 1970s between the minority Tamils and the 'Sinhalese controlled" government as an armed conflict and that the rebel Liberation Tigers, the LTTE, was the 'leading force' of Sri Lanka's Tamil minority.
