The Tigers need another Black July; the state of Sri Lanka and the anti-Tiger Tamils do not. The Sinhala-Buddhist extremist elements would be delighted with another Black July; the absolute majority of the ordinary Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims would not.

It is a contest of wills, between those who need another conflagration because they will reap enormous rewards from it and those who do not need a conflagration because it will endanger their political and personal existences. Much will depend on the ability of the Lankan state and the anti-Tiger Tamil groups to understand how important this contest is to their own survival and their willingness to stymie the efforts of those Sinhala and the Tamil extremists who seek renewal through fires of rage and revenge.

Waiting for a Black July in Trinco

Once again, every one is picking the thread for their own convenience. Lets rewind the tape and see where the ball was dropped

There was an election. ITAK had a lanslide victory in two important councils in Trinco.

The election was free and fair and no stuffing, puffing or rigging.

An important man behind the victory for the ITAK was Vigneswaran. He was brutally assasinated in a high security zone. ( those of who point fingers on LTTE such as Doglas etc, failed to realize what Hougland told before leave...)

It is government responsible for the law and order in government side and tigers for the tiger side. it is as simple as that.

The ball was dropped by some impatience paramilitary or their handlers ordered to assasiante this supposed to be MP, and tiger supported so called Resurgence force exploding claymores then a market bomb then within 30min, an orchastrated mob attack on all the tamils,

IMMMMM, this blame game and exxxxxxxcuses will never going to be productive.

Time and again, the paramilitary handlers in the military had proven, they have their own agenda and government cannot control them. Thenn what do you expect from this little tigers who are banned in many countries and not answerable to those "POWERFUL countries"

Totally agree with Manaram.

They have fallen in to the LTTE trap by indulging in these idiotic and barbaric carnage. The Tamils of Trinco did nothing against them and the bombing was done by LTTE suicide bombers.

If they want these cowards can go and try to destroy Prabhakaran the main culprit inside his bunker in Mulaitivu another man existing on human misery. These people have brought shame and anguish to all peace loving Sri Lankans by their misdeeds.

This type of thing should not be tolerated at all and punished severely to make an example out of them as a lesson for other criminals thinking of planning such attacks in the future and all sane minded people of Sri Lanka must leave such barbaric and inhumane actions and ethnic cleansing the sole monopoly of the LTTE.

Sinhala-Buddhist extremist elements active in Trincomalee should be more responsible towards the whole nation of Sri Lanka. Are you‘ll playing into the hands of the LTTE tactics of creating havoc in this country? If so, you are doing more harm to this country than doing well by attacking innocent Tamil civilians and businesses in the city. Most Tamils might be sympathizes of the LTTE but have they personally involved in planting a bomb in the market place? If anybody involved in such an act would they hang around to reap the repercussions of such an act.
My plea is to all Sinhala Buddhist civilians in Trincomalee to be more prudent. You were brave enough to live in this city for the past 25 years when the war was at the peak. You were brave enough to continue to live when most of your other citizens left for other parts of the country. You were brave to bury your relations massacred in boarder villagers in hundreds and bare the pain by pardoning the sins of the murders by following the teaching of the Lord Buddha. Do not pave way into the hands of the LTTE and create a bad impression on the majority Sinhalese populations in this country, worldwide. The last time this happen in 1983, it took more than 20 years to get rid of this stigma out form the world opinion. When the world has been rallying against all terrorism, it is not the time to get the world to accept that this is no terrorism, but uprising against the majority Sinhalese suppressing the minority Tamils. Sinhalese and Tamils have lived happily in the south of the country even when the war was raging in the North. It’s true although the Tamils could live happily in the South, the Sinhalese had to leave all their house and property in the North and come south. By all this people in this country have been able to show the world how tolerant the Sinhalese can be. For god sake, do not play into the hands of the LTTE or a few extremist Sinhalese leaders in the town who like to see this country in turmoil. These elements can survive only if there is any turmoil.
If really the LTTE wanted to destroy Trincomalee city, will they have planted a bicycle bomb. Have you forgotten the destructive power of the LTTE? Think of the Central Bank bombing, Galadarie bombing, Katunayake International airport. These small bombings are done to instigate the Sinhalese to create trouble and to get their plans up and running. Think, if you'll had not reacted to the bicycle bombing in the market, what would have been the world opinion against the LTTE, today.
Think hard before you get emotionally agitated. You have been more tolerant in the past. It’s time to be more tolerant and prudent in the future.

It's obvious that the LTTE badly in need of a set back for the GOSL in terms of International opinion. The best thing to achieve this through another 'racial riots' in which hundres of Tamils being killed and their properties destroyed which in turn will see the LTTE back on their saddle as 'protectors' of Tamils. Any genuine analysis on the Trinco incidents will lead to this conclusion.

But there are already stories spread out(by the LTTE propagandists) among the expatriates (Tamils)as to that the police and security forces had let a word with the Singhalese mobs that they could go on do whatever they wanted for two hours before they took any actions to contain the situation. Anyone with some brain would not buy such stories giving the urgent need of the LTTE, but unfortunately, many of the expatriates seemed to believe it.
