War-mongering Balasingham wants Chandrika to fight Prabhakaran’s war against the Tamils
By H. L. D. Mahindapala

Hit by the tsunami, hit by the breakaway group of Col Karuna, hit by threats of sanctions by the UN and hit by the new wave of Tamil opinion rising against the “barbarism” of the LTTE Velupillai Prabhakaran is resorting to hit-and-run tactics aimed at provoking another war.

If another war breaks out Norway along with the Co-Chairs should be directly held responsible. It was Norway who led the international campaign to put pressure on both Ranil Wickremesinghe and President Kumaratunga to sign the Ceasefire Agreement and P-TOMS respectively on the promise that these agreements would lead to peace.

The Oslo Accord crafted by Norway was hailed as the biggest breakthrough for peace with the LTTE agreeing to work for peace by accepting the sovereignty of Sri Lanka. But it is in tatter today with the LTTE denying that there was an Oslo Agreement to accept the sovereignty of the Sri Lankan state, or that they are ready to stop violence and enter into negotiations.
