Colombo, 25 November, (Asiantribune.com): Unlike others, ministerial portfolios were of no importance to JVP, but what they were interested was the welfare of the country, emphasized JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe at a media briefing yesterday.

"We are not worried about portfolios. We gave our full backing to Rajapakse placing the country before everything else," stressed Somawansa Amarasinghe.

Somawansa Amarasinghe declared, “In supporting President Mahinda Rajapakse to implement his ‘Mahinda Chintana’ the JVP does not need any ministerial portfolios or any other position”

He made this statement yesterday at the first media briefing held after the Presidential elections.

Amarasinghe added that their topmost challenge and the objective was to save the country from the reactionary forces and said that the people of this country have achieved the great victory.

JVP Leader further said that the main challenge before the JVP was to defeat the foreign forces and bring victory to the national movement in which the JVP was successful and stressed that it will continue to support the President in the future.

Amarasinghe pointed out to the media representatives that the United National Party is planning to complain against the Wanni tigers to the European Union on violation of democratic rights of North and East people at the elections.

He expressed his delight on the situation that the UNP has comprehended the oppression on Tamil community by the Wanni tigers. While thanking the UNP for complaining against the Wanni tigers to the European Union Amarasinghe emphasized that international support has to be obtained to bring the Wanni tigers into the democratic process.
