Who monitors Tamil Tiger activities in U.S.? Asian Tribune or Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry?

Washington, D.C. 28 August (Asiantribune.com): Monitoring Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger (LTTE) 'professional' lobby in the United States has several tasks. Understanding the misinformation, distortion of facts and half truths of the professionals who represent LTTE front organizations in the US that endorse Tiger agenda, is said to be most vital.

This comprehensive understanding becomes a weapon for those who are in official diplomatic positions when opening dialogues with principal officers of the United States Department of State and members of vital Congressional Committees to flush out the long held distorted and garbled beliefs they have that Sri Lanka's current battle is nothing but a partial campaign to suppress the legitimate rights of a minority ethnic group.

With a constant monitoring and greater understanding of the Tiger 'professional' maneuver in the United States, one is in a position to tip the scale in favor of Sri Lanka to convince American diplomats, congressmen and even the federal court system these Tiger professionals use, that this is a campaign nothing but to combat an armed terrorist group that has even denied the basic human and democratic rights of the people whom it says are representing.

The dismal record of Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry’s total failure to monitor the ‘professional’ LTTE lobby in the United States and win the hearts and minds of U.S. diplomats was very clearly reflected in the statements the latter released responding to the brutal assassination of this island-nation’s foreign minister Lakshman Kadirgamar. The statements stopped short of condemning only ‘as an act of terrorism’ and then advocating the Government of Sri Lanka to deal with the terrorist outfit for ‘peaceful negotiated settlement’ implying that the ‘outfit’ does represent a section of the oppressed people who were denied of a ‘peaceful settlement’ by the government.

Since 1994, Kadirgamar did an outstanding job in bringing compelling and convincing arguments before the Department of State for the latter to designate the LTTE as a ‘Foreign Terrorist Organization’ in 1998.

It stopped at that, and the Tiger’s ‘professional’ lobby in the United States took over from there to unleash the disinformation campaign using the most vital Congressional committees, which are mandated by federal law to review foreign policy and foreign assistance, that summon principal State Department officials for scrutiny.
